About Spectrum Curtains

Spectrum was established by Barry Ryder in 1973. After 42 years of decorating people’s homes with curtains and blinds, Barry retired, with long time employee, Sophie Unland, taking over as the new owner of Spectrum Curtains and Blinds. Originally in Castella Street Lilydale, Spectrum Curtains and Blinds is now a fully mobile showroom. With an extensive range of samples, we come to you.

Meet the Team

Sophie

Over 15 years in the industry – certificate 4 in interior decorating. Sophie has a passion for helping you turn a house into your home or your office space into a functional welcoming space.

Olly

Olly has years of experience in customer service and is highly skilled in the art of curtain and blind installation. He always goes above and beyond, with no task being too much trouble for him.

Jackie

With over 10 years of experience in the curtain and blind industry, she has extensive knowledge of both products and services. She can assist with the design and installation of window treatments, offering a wide range of solutions.

Sophie is a qualified interior decorator with over 15 years of experience. Sophie comes to your home or workplace to help you with your decorating needs. With her extensive knowledge, Sophie can give you the best advice on what products will meet your needs. All our window furnishings and accessories are custom made for you and installed by us. We are with you from start to finish.

Sophie oversees all aspects of the business, making sure everything is made to her high standards. She does many of the installations herself with the assistance of Olly and Jackie on the road and Lisa who runs the office side of things.

THE EVOLUTION OF SPECTRUM

Spectrum Furnishings was established in 1973 by Barry Ryder, who envisioned a company dedicated to delivering quality home furnishings. Over the following three decades, Barry expanded the business, opening four showroomsacrossBulleen, Lilydale, Forest Hill, and Beaconsfield, alongside a curtain manufacturing facility in Croydon. His commitment to craftsmanship and customer service laid a solid foundation for what would become a beloved local brand.

In 2004, as Barry began to prepare for the next chapter of his life, he began transitioning the business to his daughter Kim. To focus on a single location, the other showrooms were closed, leaving the Lilydale store as the heart of Spectrum Furnishings. As Kim started her own family in 2006, she brought Sophie into the business to help manage operations. Recognising the importance of education, Sophie pursued her studies and earned her Certificate IV in Interior Decoration by 2009, marking the beginning of her journey as Spectrum’s key salesperson, guiding customers in selecting the perfect window furnishings.
